Monday, May 1 marks the beginning of registration for Safety Town classes at Sooner Mall. Norman’s Safety Town, a 40 year Norman tradition, teaches children ages 5 and 6 years old the importance of bicycle, fire and personal safety. Classes are 50 minutes in length and offered free to the public.
Safety Town classes are conducted in a “safety village” located on the northeast corner of the Sooner Mall parking lot. Classes are conducted by the Norman Police Department and include visiting instructors from the Norman Fire Department and EMSTAT.
Each Safety Town session consists of three classes offered Monday -Friday at 9 am, 10:10 am and 11:20 am. Class sessions run June 5-9; June 12-16; June 19-23, and June 26-30. Evening classes are held the weeks of June 1 and June 15 beginning at 6:00 pm.
Registration will be held online by visiting here. To participate in classes, children must be 5 years old no later than June 1, 2017, and cannot turn 7 years old before July 1, 2017.
Safety Town is presented by Sooner Mall and the City of Norman with the assistance of local sponsors Sooner Rotary Club, Al’s Bicycles, Signs Now, and Chick-fil-A.
